GS1: Bar Code Verification Testing

Introduction

In order to ensure all products supplied to retail outlets locally or globally carry legally authorised bar codes issued by GS1 Member Organisations and that the bar codes are correctly printed and scan first time, every time, major retail chains in USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea are requesting for a Bar Code Verification Report for the packaged products. To meet this requirement, we are pleased to inform that GS1 Singapore is offering Bar Code Verification Service at the following rates effective 1 June 2009.

Fees Structure

GS1 Singapore Registered User

GS1 Singapore Registered Users are entitled to five (5) free bar code verification per year. Additional bar code verification to be conducted during the year, GS1 Singapore Registered Users will be charged a fee of S$30.00 + 7% GST per each bar code verification.

Non GS1 Singapore Registered User

Companies which are not a Registered User of GS1 Singapore will be charged a fee of S$150.00 + 7% GST per each bar code verification.

Turnaround Time for Bar Code Verification Service

Ten working days is required for conducting the test, data analysis and report documentation from the date of receipt of the products. For urgent test, an additional 20% of the fee rate will be levied for test result to be issued within three business days from receipt of products submitted for testing limiting to maximum of five (5) bar codes in each verification request form. The urgent test request is subjected to agreement by GS1 Singapore based on the level of the availability of testing capacity.

Types of Bar Code Symbols for Verification

GS1 Singapore conducts verification for samples of products packages/shipping cartons printed with the following GS1 bar code symbols:-

GS1-13
GS1-8
UPC-12
GS1-128
ITF-14

When submitting samples, companies are requested to present complete, filled retail pack for each item in order for greater accuracy when making assessment of the bar code symbols in terms of print quality, bar heights, colour, contrast as well as location factors.

For cartons, it can be sent flattened for a complete assessment.

Bar Code Verification Request Form

The GS1 Singapore Bar Code Verification Request Form is to be completed and sent with the products submitted for verification, together with the payment (by cash, nets or credit card).
